Fruit Fast

This is my first fast in a few years, I've been wanting to do it for a few months now and I've hit a few bumps in the road but that's what makes me human. I'm glad to finally be doing this and feeling the results on day 4.

What's a fruit fast? 

It's when you fast from all foods but fresh, raw fruits. 

Why am I doing this?

We should all detox our minds and bodies from things that we normally do. I recently came back from vacation and I as feeling a little bloated, I thought what better time than now to do this detox & help my weight loss? I'm reading the Bible more, and using it for reference. I've heard people speak about the Daniel Fast (an opportunity to grow closer to God in 21 days where you stay away from alcohol, sweets, + bread and eat raw fresh fruits + vegetables.) - which I'll do one day as well, but I applied the same intention towards my Fruit Fast, I'm aiming for 7 days and I'll probably eat fruits for breakfast afterwards because it helps digestion.

Daniel 1 12-16

12 Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.” 14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.

I also set the intention to continue to meditate/ pray more. I've been able to receive answers to questions I've had; your gut is like a second brain- the food you eat either clears up or clouds your judgement. I am exercising more, and I've never sweat this much in my life. It makes sense since the fruits I'm eating are filled with water, and I drink almost a gallon of water a day. 

 I'd like to do this fast for a week, once a month- I've seen people do it for a month, and some people are on a fruit-based diet. The beginning is pretty tough when 1. you're doing it alone 2. you've never done this before 3. your cravings are pretty insane. But then you get the hang of things and remember why you started. (like many things in life)

A lot of the fresh produce weren't fresh at the supermarkets I went to, so buying frozen fruits was less expensive, and easier overall since I use frozen fruits for my smoothies. All of my smoothies were made with water, and coconut water. I also drank green tea, tumeric shiitake mushroom tea.

Yes, you will get hungry at times. Yes, the smell of fresh fries in the air will be a little stronger than ever, Yes, any food on the TV, social media or the people around you will look extra good. My cravings included donuts, sesame tofu, and chicken wings- just cause. I had an almond milk yogurt in my fridge that I ate on the first day because I know I'd keep looking at it everyday wanting to eat it. I'd snack on popcorn and rice cakes in between meals in the beginning because I didn't know any better. 
 

I'm grateful for this journey, and I look forward to other fasts/ diets in the future- raw vegan diet is probably next.
